Symmetry is participating along with the rest of the community in adaptive measures to maintain the health of our patients and staff during this ongoing time of heightened viral awareness.  Here are some of the ways that we are working together to provide safe health care during the pandemic:

  • As is standard medical practice, we repeatedly sanitize contact surfaces and equipment with medical grade cleaner between patient uses and throughout the day.  Additional sanitizing supplies are located at multiple locations throughout our clinic and we welcome and encourage patient participation in diligently wiping handles and any other contact surfaces prior to and/or after individual use.
  • Also in accordance with standard medical practice, our staff continues to wash hands and wrists between patient contacts and also repeatedly throughout the day – utilizing the accepted Centers for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines for procedure.
  • We are screening both ourselves and our patients for fever and for any other signs of illness prior to each work day and each patient visit.  Masks are in use by all staff and we also require the use of masks for all patients and visitors to the clinic.
  • Soap and water are available and encouraged for patient hand washing before, during, and/or after a visit.  (According to the CDC, hand washing is the most appropriate means by which to keep hands clean.) Additionally, hand sanitizer and facial tissue are also available for staff and patient use.
  • Latex free medical exam gloves are available for patient and staff use.  While in our facility, patients are welcome to utilize gloves in addition to hand washing as a means to keep contact surfaces clean.  Patients and their physical therapist may also elect to utilize gloves during any hands-on procedure that is provided.  Standard pre- and post-treatment hand-washing is still considered by the CDC and the World Health Organization as “best practice” for personal protection.
  • In accordance with current local and national health authority recommendations, Symmetry is monitoring daily schedules to enable maintenance of the currently recommended “physical distancing” measure of keeping a safe distance between individuals during patient care hours.  We will also be tracking the total number of persons in the clinic in accordance with recommended guidelines.
  • We are consistently monitoring updates and recommendations from both the Centers for Disease Control and Texas’ state and local health authorities.  We will continue to provide information to our patients and staff and to make adjustments to our policies as appropriate.

As we continue to strive to provide safe and quality health care, we ask the following of our patients:

  • Stay home if you are feeling ill – particularly if you are experiencing a fever or any respiratory symptom such as a cough or shortness of breath.
  • When in the clinic, help us to maintain a physical distance of approximately 6 feet from other patients.  To aid in this endeavor, it would be helpful if family members or others accompanying a patient to treatment would be prepared to wait in a building common area or a vehicle rather than in the clinic lobby.
  • Follow “best practice” guidelines for maintaining health and preventing illness:
    • Cover the mouth and nose with a tissue or a sleeve (not the hands) when coughing or sneezing.
    • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds to avoid spreading germs to others.
    • Wash hands with soap and water immediately after coughing, sneezing or blowing the nose.
    • Avoid touching the eyes, nose, mouth, and face – particularly with unwashed hands.
    • Utilize a face mask or other cloth facial covering when out in public.

Thank you for your partnership as we collectively navigate this difficult time!
