About Our Services

At Symmetry Physical Therapy, our skilled staff provide a wide range of services to help you to find your balance in health. We take pride in the clinical experience that we provide and work hard to make sure that you always receive the highest quality of care while in our clinic. We are pleased to offer the following services to patients in the Austin area:

Orthopedic Physical Therapy

At Symmetry Physical Therapy, our expertise is in orthopedics–the treatment of musculoskeletal issues that impact movement. Our evaluation process goes beyond the typical localized assessment of pain to also examine the additional effects that an injury or illness can have on posture and global body movement. We also take care to explore the various possible causes of the immediate problem that brings a client to our office–some of which may be rooted in mechanical patterns that have existed for a prolonged period of time. We treat bones, joints and muscles, in a manner that recognizes the global relationships between parts of the body and between different body systems. We understand that injury to one body part not only affects that specific structure, but also the way that the whole body moves.

Manual Therapy

The core of our care at Symmetry is hands-on treatment. We incorporate a wide variety of manual therapies into each therapy session, which could include joint mobilization, soft-tissue release techniques, nerve mobilization, assisted movements and stretching and high-velocity manipulations. Enabling joints and muscles to move without restriction allows the body to attain optimal mobility. Restoring normal movement in an area that has been too loose or too stiff also has a significant impact on decreasing pain. Physical therapy research is consistently demonstrating that the use of manual therapy generates good treatment results, particularly when combined with specifically designed programs of activity and movement. We utilize this ‘Best Practice’ as the basis for virtually all of our patient care.

Wellness Services

Our global healthcare system is progressively recognizing that maintaining health and wellness is advantageous in comparison to simply treating disease and dysfunction. People stay healthier when they get regular medical and dental check-ups and screen for possible disease periodically, according to their individual risk factors and family history of illness. Symmetry Physical Therapy believes that physical health can be similarly responsive to consistent “maintenance”. Regularly evaluating items such as body weight, strength, flexibility, and cardiopulmonary fitness can help patients get started on or modify activities or exercise programs that can create ongoing musculoskeletal health. This data will provide you with a ‘snapshot’ of your individual strengths and areas for improvement.

Concussion Services

Symmetry provides pre-season baseline screenings, preventative care and post-injury management of concussion. A concussion is a type of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) that occurs when the head is jolted–either by a direct force or by a blow to the body that results in a jerking action of the head and neck. If a concussion has occurred, appropriate management is critical. Rest is important for recovery. Physical activity should be resumed gradually, under controlled circumstances. Symmetry advises patients and their families on prevention of further injury and safe guidelines for return to normal activity.

TMJ Rehabilitation

The temporomandibular joint, or ‘TMJ’, is a strong but very mobile connection between the jaw and the skull on each side of the head. Due to its proximity to the ear and to the cervical spine, problems with the TMJ can create a wide variety of pain and mechanical problems – not just in the jaw area, but also in the head, face, or neck. TMJ problems can also cause ear aches or symptoms such as ringing in the ears. Symmetry Physical Therapy offers TMJ treatment as a part the clinic’s specialty spine rehabilitation program, with a therapist that has over a decade of experience treating patients with TMJ disorders.
