Independence Day 2017 in Austin

The 4th of July is coming up quickly, and Austin has multiple events scheduled to celebrate the occasion. Independence Day is a good excuse to spend the day outdoors and enjoy some fireworks in the evening. Here are some events available in Austin to help celebrate:

Fireworks and Family Fun:

This list from the Downtown Austin Patch describes a variety of Independence Day Events in Austin and the surrounding communities. It’ll be easy to spend the day at a local park or parade, or to arrive later to see one of multiple nearby fireworks displays.

4th of July Fireworks Paddle:

Check out the City of Austin’s fireworks display from a kayak or paddle board on Lady Bird Lake. Rentals are available during the day, or for a special late-evening paddling session leaving from the Austin Rowing Dock.

Cycling, Fireworks, & Pizza:

If you’re interested in a medley of activities to celebrate America’s independence, consider joining this event. The Austin Beer Garden & Brewery is hosting an afternoon dance party, after which there will be a group bike ride to Auditorium Shores to hear the Austin Symphony and to watch fireworks. The Ghisallo Cycling Initiative – a non-profit organization offering bicycle training and classes for kids – will be on-site during the afternoon doing bicycle safety checks.

Round Rock Express Baseball vs. Memphis Redbirds:

If you like baseball – one of the classic American Independence Day traditions – you can watch Round Rock Express take on the Memphis Redbirds starting at 7:05 pm at the Dell Diamond. Even if you don’t make it out to watch the game, you can watch the firework display that will be over the stadium post-game.

Dance to Live Music:

Dancing can be a fun way to exercise and a great way to celebrate Independence Day! Check out an Austin classic – Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic at the Circuit of the Americas. Or the South Austin Music Society (SAMS) is hosting a 4th of July concert benefitting the Health Alliance for Austin Musicians (HAAM).
